Standard Hardware Installation

This list is the standard hardware configuration for faculty desktop machines. It is updated in the middle of the spring semester each year to help plan for end-of-year purchases and new fiscal year purchases. By adhering to these recommendations, you can expect the highest levels of support and quality as well as assurances that your hardware is designed to meet expectations for future strategies here at ISU.

 

Desktops: Windows

  • Dell Optiplex 755 (INTEL)
  • Dell Optiplex 750 (AMD)
  • CPU -- Intel Core Duos or AMD Athlon X2 (2 GHz Range)
  • Memory -- 2 GB RAM
  • Monitor -- LCD, at least 17"
  • Optical Drive -- DVD-/+RW

Desktop: Windows: Clones:

  • CPU -- Intel Core Duos or AMD Athlon X2 (2 GHz Range)
  • Memory -- 2 GB RAM
  • Monitor -- LCD, at least 17"
  • Optical Drive -- DVD-/+RW

Clone Purchases

Please work with your CAS-IT support person to purchase our standard build for the year. This ensures compatibility with ISU’s future strategies and lower overheads for both cost and support.

Operating Systems:

For ISU owned machines, order the cheapest OS, usually Windows XP Home edition. We can then upgrade the system to Windows XP Pro.

  • Minimum 2GB Memory, 120 GB Hard Drive
  • Dell Latitude D630
  • Dell Latitude D530
  • Dell ATG (ruggedized D630) – Consider for outdoor field usage or checkouts.

For ISU owned machines, consider ordering the cheapest OS, Usually Windows XP Home edition. We can then upgrade the system to Windows XP Pro.

Vista Concern:

If you order a machine that only offers Vista as an operating system choice, the chances are we cannot make the system run Windows XP.
